According to a recent report, the new iPad Pro’s speculated OLED screens—which have fewer layers than LCD displays—will make the tablet thinner.
Apple is getting ready to release new iPad Pro and iPad Air models this year, following its 2023 decision not to update its tablet lineup. The higher-end iPad Pro may use the M3 chip, which powers the most recent MacBook Pro models, while the new iPad Air is expected to run on Apple’s proprietary M2 chip. The complete dimensions of the next iPad Air and iPad Pro models have now been leaked by a new report.
According to earlier rumors, the upcoming iPad Air and iPad Pro models will probably have two display sizes. Along with the standard 10.9-inch model, a new 12.9-inch iPad Air model is rumored to be released. The 12.9-inch iPad Air is expected to have the same dimensions as the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, according to a 9to5Mac report. The larger iPad Air is expected to be slightly thinner than the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro, with dimensions of 280.6 x 214.9 x 6.0 mm, according to the report, which cites sources familiar with the development.
On the other hand, it is rumored that the new iPad Pro models will be thinner in addition to slightly larger. According to the report, the iPad Pro will be thinner thanks to the new OLED displays on the Pro variant tablets, which have fewer layers than an LCD display. The dimensions of the new 11-inch iPad Pro are expected to be 249.7 x 177.5 x 5.1 mm, as opposed to the current 11-inch model’s 247.6 x 178.5 x 5.9 mm measurements. According to reports, the larger 12.9-inch model will be 1.4 mm thinner than the current corresponding model, with dimensions of 281.5 x 215.5 x 5.0 mm.
Remember that these measurements are only approximations, and the finished item may differ from what is shown. While Apple has not yet announced the new iPad models, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has stated that a revised lineup of iPad Air and iPad Pro models may be available by March.
Furthermore, the iPad Pro models are probably going to be the first Apple tablets with OLED screens, which offer superior black levels and contrast over mini-LED screens. Last year, Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, also predicted that OLED screens would replace mini-LED ones in the upcoming iPad Pro tablets.
Alleged computer-aided design (CAD) renders of the rumored 2.9-inch iPad Air appeared online last month, providing some teasers about the form factor and design of the upcoming tablet. The renders showed a slimmer body, a USB Type-C port for charging, and a minor redesign of the camera unit.
