‘Circle to Search’ and other Galaxy AI capabilities will soon be available on your older Samsung Galaxy tablet or smartphone.
As part of its next One UI 6.1 upgrade, Samsung has revealed that owners of the company’s previously released smartphones and tablets would be able to access its Galaxy AI features. This implies that the AI features developed by the company, which debuted with the Galaxy S24 series of smartphones, will soon be accessible on older Samsung Galaxy devices. These features include Circle to Search, Live Translate, Interpreter mode for phone calls, Instant Slow-mo for videos, Note Assist, Browsing Assist, and AI generated wallpapers.
The South Korean tech giant revealed on Thursday that the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphones will get Galaxy AI features with their next One UI 6.1 upgrade. The One UI 6.1 upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series will also support the new AI features found on the Galaxy S24 family.
Circle to Search, which adds the ability to draw a circle around, highlight, or pick objects and text in photographs to search on Google without leaving the current app, is the first Galaxy AI feature that is making its way to the company’s older phones and tablets. Since the Galaxy S24 series launched last month, Samsung has been introducing this feature.
Additionally, the next upgrade will bring Galaxy AI capabilities to the company’s built-in apps, including Live Translate for phone conversations, Chat Assist for texting in thirteen languages, and an Interpreter mode for instantaneous translation. Additionally, Note Assist, Browsing Assist, and Transcript Assist functions will be supported for the Samsung Notes, Samsung Internet, and Recorder apps, respectively.
Meanwhile, the company’s older Galaxy smartphones and tablets will soon have capabilities driven by generative AI. The business claims that users will be able to “resize, reposition or realign objects” in photographs using Generative Edit. To create slow-motion videos from normal ones, Instant Slow-mo will automatically create extra frames.
By the end of March, Samsung claims that the One UI 6.1 upgrade, which is based on Android 14, will be available for the Galaxy S23 family, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, as well as the Galaxy Tab S9 series. The business also notes that certain aspects of the Galaxy AI on the S24 series could not work with previous models and that other functionalities need an Internet connection, a Samsung account, or the built-in apps from the company.
