It has been rumored that by Q1 2025, Meta and LG want to introduce the second-generation Meta Quest Pro mixed reality headset.

According to a report, Meta Quest Pro 2 would be created as the company’s second premium XR headset in collaboration with a South Korean tech giant. The wearable gadget will compete with the Apple Vision Pro and other cutting-edge mixed reality headsets that are rumored to be in the pipeline. It is reported to be more potent—and more expensive—than its predecessor. It has been reported that the user interface (UI) of Meta’s second-generation headset will be built on LG’s webOS rather than the Quest UI developed by the business.

According to a report by Korea Economic Daily (in Korean), which cited an industry official, CEOs of Meta and LG Electronics, Cho Joo-wan and Mark Zuckerberg, will meet on Wednesday. This is in advance of the companies’ plan to use the metaverse technology of Facebook and LG’s hardware and software to release the “highest-performing XR headset” in Q1 2025, “surpassing” Apple’s Vision Pro headset.

The alleged LG-Meta partnership was first reported in September 2023. The report claimed that the device would cost $2,000 (approximately Rs. 1.65 lakh), which was almost twice as much as the first-generation Quest Pro headset, which was first released in 2022 for $1,499 (roughly Rs. 1,24 lakh).

But the company’s technologies will not stop at LG’s hardware when it comes to the rumored headgear. It has been reported that Meta is thinking of replacing Quest UI with LG’s webOS software. This might be useful if the company wishes to take on visionOS on the Apple Vision Pro or Samsung’s rumored ‘Infinte’ XR headset.

A few of LG’s products will also incorporate Meta’s AI technology as part of the alleged partnership. According to the story, Zuckerberg will be visiting South Korea for the first time in ten years to talk about XR headsets. It is anticipated that the firms would declare their intention to collaborate on producing Meta’s next line of high-end XR headsets.
